Update

Friday morning I had the pleasure of waking up at 6:30 in the morning so that I could drive downtown in the usual morning rush hour to see the doctor at 9. I think it was the first time I was up before Tyler on a work day. Weekends it is to be expected anymore. Anyways, the doctor couldn't stop telling me how good my baby looks. That's because for a failure to thrive kid Brandon does actually look very normal. They don't generally look this good nor do they have the mental and motor development that Brandon has. He is under the assumption that Brandon is just made this way and there isn't anything really wrong with him. Especially since I told him that Zach is small as well. I will fax him both of my kids growth information and he said that he could look at them and be able to tell if it's "constitutional" as he was calling it. I've never really heard that word used in medicine before and not like I'm a medical expert or anything, but I did take classes in high school and my sis is a physician's assistant. She understood what he was saying, but had never really heard the term either. He did express concern on the head circumference issue. However, that is not really his field so he was saying my doc may want to have in get an MRI or a cat scan to make sure the bones aren't fusing early or anything and to make sure there is no issue with the brain. I also saw a nutritionist when I was there. She too commented on how good he looked with his condition. She said that she viewed her chart to see what she was going into and then saw Brandon and had to look at her chart again to see if she misread something. That's because he looks like a normal kid, but his weight to length ratio is not even on the chart so it's a negative percentile. So, her suggestions to me was to mix a teaspoon of canola oil into his baby food and to feed him three jars a day. He had been eating two. I'm also supposed to make an attempt at getting formula in him, but that's a long time from the present. A 1 oz formula with 3 oz breast milk was still too strong for him so I have to start by putting a dropperful of formula to probably 4 oz of breast milk and see if I can even get that in him. He has very keen taste buds unlike his mother. Other than that I will see him again in 2 months and we will draw blood again to double check his liver enzymes, but most likely they have nothing to do with his size. I'll continue to try to fatten my little bugger up and we'll go from there. I'm not sure about the cat scan thing. I need to talk to my doctor still. Part of me things sure why not lets just check it out and another part doesn't want to since he will most likely have to be sedated to hold still. Could you imagine? Brandon we need you to lay very still, yeah right!

On a cute note...we have a Little Einsteins wand that plays music as you move it around and Brandon was shaking it and making sing song noises as the music played! It was so cute. It turns out maybe he does like music like Zachary does! But I'm not sure if he will ever love music as much as Zach. Zach amazes me at how musically inclined he is. He has a Maroon 5 song (Wake Up Call) that he likes because it sounds like bad guy music to him and the other day we were listening to the radio and This Love came on and Zach goes, "Mom, this is the same guy that sings my I don't think so song" I asked him, "How did you know that? Did Dad tell you that?" (I'm thinking in my head that would be weird because Tyler doesn't like Maroon 5.) He says, "No, it's because he sounds the same." I was very impressed because I would never be able to pick out a song by it's singer except for a few that have a very distinct sound. Tyler however could tell you almost anyone if he had heard them sing once so I know Zach gets that from him, but Zach does still make up his own lyrics which I happily will say he gets that from me!

Cat scan? For a wee little angel? Ha ha, I loved your statement about telling Brandon to lie very still! Poor little guy, if they DO have to do the scan, I'm sure he WILL have to be sedated. But I guess in the scheme of things, it's better to rule everything out than to worry about what might be wrong.

That seems like quite an adventure to add all that liquid fat to B's diet! I hope that his digestive system tolerates it.
