Catching Up

Wow, where do I begin?!? So many things I have wanted to post about and well, I just haven't now have I?!? I guess what most of you are most interested in is the hurricane. Lots of things in our area were damaged, but nothing like what you would've seen in the news. Even the wall at Chuck E. Cheese was damaged and Zach asked me what happened to it. All I had to say was the hurricane got it and Zach quickly said, "Hurricane Ike, you're not supposed to do that." It as though this hurricane is a person that has gone on a rampage around here. It does have a name after all. We did have some shingles blown off of our roof and the one tree I didn't like got blown over for me so we had an excuse to get rid of. It was planted before the playgym was put in and after the playgym it was just kind of awkward and it's limbs would need to be cut because they would grow over the slide and I just didn't really like it's location. So, when Tyler told me that tree was blown over I said, "YES! I always hated that tree." We just never had any excuse to dig it up. Thanks Hurricane Ike! The wind was so crazy that water got pushed through our windows on the front of our house. It was pretty creapy. Zach slept through the beginning of the storm until about 4:30am once he woke up though he was like full steam ahead and thought he was on some kind of adventure with his dad. The power went out about 4 so flashlights in hand Zach thought it was pretty cool. I on the other hand was a little scared of all the noise and kept thinking that something might come flying through the window at Brandon and me so I decided to move to the master closet. Also, as only Tori will really understand our front door makes this freaky lound humming noise when the wind pushes through it and so along with the clatter at the windows and the freaky hum I kept hearing it was a little less noisy in there. Luckily it is large enough for me to lay down in. At some point since I didn't have a clock and it was after 4:30 cuz Zach was awake, Tyler and Zach joined us because it became a little intense for Tyler as well, but he fell asleep for a little while in the closet because I heard him snoring. Zach was never able to fall asleep and I kept saying "just don't wake Brandon!" I think the sun came up around 7 and we tried to call our parents, but the cell service was shot and we don't have a land line so later that afternoon we drove to my in-laws and I called my parents from there because on that day they had good service. We were out of power until Monday evening at 7:30 pm and my poor in-laws were out of power until last Sunday night. It's weird to go to the grocery store and have all of their fridge and freezer shelves empty as was my experience this morning. Yes more than a week later and the grocery stores still have not been able to restock their stuff. You can get milk, but I havent' been able to buy eggs in almost 2 weeks now. Lines at gas stations were hour waits that luckily I never had to endure. For those with generators though they had to get in line to keep the stuff in their fridge from going bad. Us on the other hand have an empty fridge and freezer because 3 days without power the stuff goes bad. Luckily we were able to save some of our freezer stuff since my in-laws had a generator. My parents do too, but they were a little far to venture out too since it takes an 1/8 of a tank of gas there and back. I wasn't about to sign myself up to get in a gas line. No thanks! The Thursday before though places were running out of fuel and I had to get premium it wasn't until 1pm that I even knew it was coming straight for Houston. I had other things going on in my life. Tyler had over a week off from work because of Ike which isn't a good thing because he has to catch up plus he lost 2 months worth of work to the destruction at his office. Zach missed 5 days of school, but started back today. YEA!!! That's the best news yet! So, I think that catches you up for the most part. Hopefully I'll have something fun and exciting to post soon. Ta-ta for now!

Good to hear that things are getting back to normal over there. I'm so grateful y'all are ok. Hopefully Galveston will be rebuilt by the summer so you can still have your annual summer beach trips!

oh my goodness! You make the hurricane sound like an adventure! I would be freaking out, fo sho. that is so strange that you go into a grocery store and they only have non-perishables. Bizarre. So, you say the best part of Ike being over is that now Zach gets to go back to school? I guess he was driving you bonkers?
