The Joys of Christmas

Lately I have been trying very hard to teach Zachary about the true meaning of Christmas. I feel that he is old enough to understand why we celebrate Christmas especially since he knows who Jesus is. He may not fully understand who Jesus is in whole, but when he see's his picture he knows it's Jesus. We talk about the nativity often and Zachary will always tell you that Mary is Jesus's mother and if you ask who Jesus's father is Zach will often say God (which is a good start and I always try to emphasize that it's Heavenly Father). We are working on more of the story like the three wiseman and I'll ask Zach what gifts were brought to Jesus and he can most definitely tell me gold. So this morning at church when we were in nursery (which I am one of the teachers) the other teacher was asking the class whose birthday we celebrate at Christmas. I was thinking well Zach should know, but a lot of times he is too shy to talk to anyone else, so I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't say anything. Of course he kept his little mouth shut. The teacher went on to say we celebrate Jesus's birthday at Christmas!! Zach was quick to chime in, "And Santa Claus brings us presents too!" Well, I guess all these days I've been teaching Zach about Jesus's birthday and the nativity haven't stuck nearly as well as the conversations about Santa bringing him presents. But I do have to give him credit for saying the and part. A lot times if somethings not right in Zach's little mine he'll first say No it's not it's and then finish what he thinks it is. At least he knows we celebrate Jesus's birthday AND Santa brings us presents!

Priorities first, right Zach? You definitely inherited that from your dear mommy. Thanks so much for decorating the gingerbread house today since grandma could barely stand up. I enjoyed every moment with you, even singing at the top of your lungs in the bed, ere are you mommy, grandma, papa?, etc.
Love you so much,
Grandma
