What's in a name?

Earlier today I was talking to Zachary trying to just engage him in conversation. I went through a list of nicknames that I call him by like turkey buttons and snicker doodle. (The only one I can officially explain is the turkey buttons...my mother called me turkey butt among other things as a child and I consider turkey buttons a mere upgrade...they are both terms of endearment though, I promise!) Somehow, you can generate a whole list of random fun things to call your child, but Zachary has learned that they all mean I am calling him. (Maybe it's just me, but somehow I do have a ton.) Anyways, I went through the list by saying, "Who is snicker doodle?" and of course he would giggle and say, "ME!" Then I decided to throw him off and I said, "Who is Tyler?" And he shouted excitedly, "Daddy!" Then of course I asked who is Julie? and he responded correctly. Tonight after putting him to bed rather early because he hadn't taken a nap Zachary decided he would stay up and play way past his usual bedtime. He wasn't crying (YEA!), he was just playing and having fun. Sometimes Zachary does try to talk to us behind the closed door and well yell out, MOM or DAD. Hoping that by some chance we will come and play with him, but (I know it sounds mean) we are just hoping that he will soon fall fast asleep. Tonight, I sat in the living room reading a magazine. Often times we sit in our room with the door closed so that we can't hear him and he can't hear us. Luckily I was able to hear him and at the perfect moment Tyler happened to walk out and ask, "is he still awake?" The next second we hear, "TYLER! JULIE!" We couldn't help, but crack up. Even though it took him a LONG time to fall asleep, tonight hearing him yell out our names was sure worth it! The other funny moment was when Tyler decided to check on him at that moment to make sure he hadn't pooped his pants (again) or to see what was causing him to stay awake. Of course Zachary had to see Mommy so Tyler told him to go get me. As I'm sitting on the couch I see this 2 year old bolt of lighting jet by me so quickly darting into our bedroom I assume he is chasing a piece of chocolate or something. Of course he was just looking for mom. Tyler steps out and shows Zach that I'm sitting on the couch. He's so funny. Of course his explanation as to why he couldn't fall asleep was because he needed his frosty blanket that was sitting right next to me. (A blanket with frost the snowman in case you didn't get it.) Yeah, right, I'm sure that's what it was.

Turkey buttons, you really are an upgrade to Turkey butt, but both of you are still so dear to me.

I only wish I could have been there to hear the outcry of, "Tyler, Julie!" He is so much fun. I really appreciate all the little funny stories about Zach.

love you guys,
grandma
