Unexpected teachings

I was supposed to add this to the last blog, but only those who check frequently will notice. Most of my fans, I have learned, don't check that often so I don't stress about posting every day. I also haven't felt like too many exciting things have happened to post about. But I thought this was cool. Today I learned that Zach can actually count past 10. Typically I know all of the things Zach can do. A lot of times Tyler will ask me things like did you know Zach knows pumpkin? And of course I tell him yes I knew that (in my mind I'm thinking...knew that for months now, but I don't say it out loud). I know Tyler's at work and doesn't spend as much time with Zach as I get too, but he's actively involved with Zach's life and I always try to keep him updated on Zach's new milestones. Anyways, back to him being able to count. Today I decided I would let Zach walk up the stairs that lead to our apartment. He very rarely has to do such an arduous task, but today I decided I wasn't going to carry him and I was going to let him get a little exercise. So, as we're climbing the steps Zach starts to count at some point during the trek to name each step as we climb, 1 - 2 - 3 .... then as we're mounting the top I hear 11 - 12 - 13 - 14 - 15 - 16 (we made it to the platform). When he was saying it I wasn't even thinking about it, but then it dawned on me, I just heard Zach count to 16. It's amazing the things kids learn when you aren't actively trying to teach them. The other day Zach had to walk up the steps and Tyler had counted them as they went. I'm sure that's where he learned to count the steps and it was times like that where he learned to count to 16. Who knows if he can count higher, but I will rue the day I have to listen to my proud pre-schooler when he can count to 100. However, I will be equally proud of him mastering the difficult task of counting to 100. Of course I called Tyler and asked did you know that Zach can count to 16?!? I know you're thinking it would be great if Tyler told me yes, I did. Well, he didn't, but he was probably the one who taught him!
