Diarrhea of the Mouth
I'm sure you've all heard the saying Diarrhea of the Mouth. Tyler's Grandma uses it to describe herself all the time. Tonight after hours of unstopped ramblings, I commented that Zachary is a prime example of someone who has diarrhea of the mouth. I'm not always sure what exactly he is talking about since he has developed a bad case of mumbling. All Mittelstaedt's are known for their lazy tongues and Tyler mumbles even worse than I do, so I guess it's safe to say it comes honestly. Other times Zachary will repeat the same thing over and over again. He has a tendency to ask me "What is that Mom?" Of course 95% of the time I have absolutely no clue what "that" is. He'll use that in reference to any noun even when he could use the noun in place of that. As in, "can I have that?" Of course I am still bewildered and am trying to coax him in to telling me at this point what that is. I'm grateful that he is so eager to learn and interested in all the things he sees around him, but when you tell him I'm not sure what that is, it never is enough to satisfy him. He will endlessly ask, "what is that?" and hence he becomes very verbose and a case of diarrhea of the mouth sets in. The funny thing about Zach though is he is so shy. Whenever we are out and anyone pays him any attention, he climbs between my legs and tries to hide. He gets his shyness from his daddy. Even though I will openly admit he gets his non-stop talking from his mother, it's a genetic trait I sometimes wish I didn't share. One lady said about her daughter, "If she isn't talking, she's asleep." I instantly thought of Zachary, "If he isn't talking, he's asleep." At least that was the case tonight!
