I need my hat and jacket

Anytime we go outside lately Zachary always tells me he needs his hat and jacket. It gets a little tough on the days it's warm outside, but I figure if he really wants to wear it he can. The funny thing is that his jacket of choice is a puffier warmer jacket. For some reason he calls it his fire jacket. He's been into firetrucks and firefighters lately, so maybe he thinks it looks like a fireman's outfit even though it really doesn't. Or, maybe he feels like he's on fire when he wears it? It's interesting how young kids get excited when they see sirens coming down the road and we as parents point them out because the kids think they are cool. I can understand why it is exciting for them, but it always kinda bothered me because he didn't understand that there is nothing cool about sirens. So, I finally told Zach when we saw one pass that they were going to save the day. Now, every time he hears sirens he looks at me and says in questioning intonation, "Mom, they're going to save the day?" It makes me feel a lot better. The other day we sat outside when it was a little chilli but not as cold as it has been the last couple of days and we fed the birds. That equates to spreading a little bird seed on our porch. Zachary looked so cute sitting out there that I had to take his picture through my bedroom window. He has his "fire" jacket on and an improvised hat since the one he normally wears was in the car.

I guess I have one more fire story. The other morning I woke up to Zachary yelling FIRE, FIRE, FIRE, like he was seeing a fire and he was super excited about it (however after re-reading what I typed the sound of Beavis and Butthead came to mind and if you ever watched it, he sounded NOTHING like that). At first I thought he was looking at his window and saw the sun rising. You know how sometimes different shades of red and orange can be seen. Then I looked at my window and it was a normal blue sky. Then I thought, is there possibly a fire in his room? So, of course I hopped up out of bed a lot faster than I normally do and as I'm heading toward his room I'm not too worried because I figured I would have some indication that there was a fire other than his constant yelling of FIRE, FIRE! When I opened his door he had the book Good Night, Moon in his hands and he was opened to one of the pages of the bedroom with the fire going in the fire place. Of course that got me worried that he thinks fire is some really cool thing, but I will have to try to continue to teach him that fire is dangerous.
