update

I wanted to post yesterday, but I never got around to it in the morning and by the evening I had become the sick one in the family. I was sick the entire time I was in Dallas with allergy/cold symptoms and I kept dosing on Claritin and Benadryl to fight the mess in my nose. I seemed to get better the next day upon returning home, but I'm appearing to be having a relapse. It is yuck and no fun. Zach still has a very mild cough. He's on the steroid that "doesn't taste good at all." I called my sister last night because she's the all-star P.A. and I'm just the stay-at-home mom to see if continuing the dose of steroid was really necessary. The night before I gave it to him and he gagged terribly. He spit out most of the dose so he had to take it again. We tried shoving Peanut Butter cups in his mouth post medicine, but he was gagging still an ended up throwing it up a little. I didn't want to go through that again last night, but Jess said it was important to taper it down or the body could go into a little shock since he was given such high doses the two nights previous. Of course as the croup expert at this point I was confused since the pediatrician never tapered him down. I think it was because she just gave him smaller doses, but Zach didn't gag nearly as much in the past either. Well, last night he was a champion medicine taker. We had his water in one hand and a candy cane in the other to be ready for entering the mouth to help get out the bad taste. He never gagged and he didn't fight me. Of course he takes it because it helps him to not get the breathing hiccups as he called it the other night.
So, Zachary still went to school yesterday. He still has a mild, mild cough and a slightly yucky nose, but activity wise he's completely normal. If I didn't pay an arm and a leg for him to attend this school I might consider keeping him home, but I don't think he is sick enough to warrant that. He's doing much better at a lot of his skills. He got to trace some lines with a marker and he did an awesome awesome job. If I had a scanner I would show you, but we're not that advanced. When I looked through his work and I got to that one I told Zachary, "WOW, you did such a good job tracing these lines." He stood there and said, "Thank You, Thank You." But it was in a somewhat cocky tone like yes, I know I did a good job, thank you for commenting. When Tyler got home and we showed him Zach's great ability I had Tyler ooh and aah at it for me and Zach says to Tyler, "Yeah, I did." At least he was polite the first time around, but I was quick to remind him that when someone gives you a compliment you say Thanks You. He was probably to busy being Superman Zachary to remember. For his cousins birthday last year they all got to be super heroes and my sister-in-law made capes for all the kids with their own initial on the back where an S normally appears for superman. Zach had fun running around in the house in it last night. When it was time to go to bed I was getting frustrated that he wasn't listening to me and he wasn't getting into bed when I asked. "Zachary, get in the bed right now. It is time to go to bed." His response while sitting on the floor looking at me, "But I'm Superman." So, I had to change my request, "Superman get in the bed it is time to get some rest." He came willingly since I called him by the correct name. I also reminded him that Superman always did whatever people asked him to do and he was a good listener. Zachary was smirking at me like yeah right mom, you're just saying that. So, I was quick to add you can watch any movie of his and see that Superman was always a good guy. But he came to bed nonetheless and I was able to take his cape off by telling my superman that it should lay next to him so that it didn't get wrinkled. Well, that's our life over here for now!

I'm sorry you've been sick. So have I, with allergies too! And I always take guaifenesin thanks to your PA sister Jess who told me back in 2000 that that was the best medicine for a sinus infection (which as we know comes shortly after the allergy outbreak if it's not treated right away). So, I take a combination of loratadine, guaifenesin and pseudoephedrine and I'm better in about 4 days. Thank goodness for drugs...and superman!

Superman, you are my kind of guy. Glad you got to postpone going to bed just a little, but I'm really glad you acted just like the real superman acts....always listening to his mom and dad.

Zach, I love how you named your breathing hiccups. You are so smart and I also know you did a great job on your tracing at school. When you come back to grandma junie's house, you can practice tracing the templates again.

Love ya much,
gj
